Faith and courage

Frequenters of my sites down the years will have known her simply as ‘Emmie’ – the reader who almost always had something to say in the ‘Comments’ sections under my articles. They will have noticed how supportive she always was, her words exhorting me; how she urged other readers to respond, and challenged them to act on Israel’s behalf.

Today, January 15, 2015, Emmie – my dear Mom, who led me to the Lord as a little boy, fasted me back from years of prodigal living, and stood always as an unshakeable pillar of faith alongside me, instilling a love for the people of Israel and for God’s purposes for this nation – went to be with the Lord.

Despite enduring much physical and mental suffering , especially in recent years, her trust in the Lord remained strong to the end. Her love for Zion was a reflection of her love for the God of Israel.

One reader, on hearing of her passing, told me: “I will miss the sweet, faith-filled words left by Emmie Goodenough. I always liked them, way before I knew she was your mom.”

“Faith and courage absolutely – sums up Mom’s life,” said one of my siblings,

She is now pain-free, whole and forever blissfully in His glorious presence. We give Him praise for her extraordinary life.

Until we meet again, Mom

Stan

Emmie is survived by her husband Alden, seven children, 23 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

  1. Dear Stan, I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. Being so busy, I haven’t been able to read your post or anything else lately. How blessed you are to have had such a wonderful mother. Thank God, those who love the Lord have eternity to look forward to with He who inhabits eternity. Your mom did right by you in directing you to seek the God of Abraham, Isaac , Jacob and our Lord Jesus. Just think your mom guided you into the Words of Life and you have such an ability to help others to see what God has revealed to you. I pray God enables you to continue expounding His truth to a very confused Christian world. Many do not know where to stand and I know God said He would raise up teachers and leaders after His own heart.

  2. What a legacy Emmie has left behind! Truly, the value of ONE life is measured by the impact of that life on other lives that have been touched, affected, and impacted. How BLESSED you are, Stan, to have had such a faithful, supportive, faith-filled, praying mom. And what a blessing she is to your descendants. Your family line is BLESSED. She is an enduring testimony to the power of transforming prayer to heal and make new. When I listen to you teach and speak, I can only thank God for your mother who prayed you back home.

  3. So sorry for your loss, Stan. What an encouragement for those of us moms who are praying for prodigals! What a sweet woman she must have been to have had such a beautifully written tribute to her by a granddaughter! May her memory be ever blessed!

  4. How blessed you are to have had such a wonderful mother, Stan! I often wondered who Emmie Goodenough was, and now I know – she is your beloved mom. Surely the angels are rejoicing that the time has come for her to enter the “joy of her Lord”. Such a mixture of joy and sorrow must be present with you just now. I know that the celebration of her life, as you say goodbye for a little while, will be a glorious celebration indeed. May the comfort of the God of Israel be with you.

  5. We’re sorry for your loss. What a great legacy she leaves behind. We’re praying for you my friend. Keep up the good work until we too leave this earth.

  6. We’re sorry to hear of your loss of your dear supportive mother, Emmie. May our Master YHVH Elohim give you and your family comfort during this time of mourning and loss and may your daughter Emma also be blessed with all of the positive attributes of your mother.

  7. I did not know her but we can be grateful that she ‘prayed the prodigal back’ so many years ago and he is now a blessing to many. We can rejoice that those of us that never knew her will see again – soon!
